IAASF 2023 UK Conference

'Protecting Cultural Venues During Uncertain Times'

11th - 13th September 2023

Redworth Hall Hotel, County Durham

 Message from the IAASF Committee

Thank you for joining the IAASF Committee at Redworth Hall Hotel for IAASF 2023.

Cultural venues, their assets and the people operating within them are under threat around the world. Since February 2022, we have seen Ukraine under severe threat from the Russian invasion with venues of cultural significance being targeted during missile strikes resulting in severe damage to places that are much loved by locals and tourists.  Places of worship, museums, galleries, and residential areas across the country have been left destroyed with thousands of people not knowing what their future holds. That is why we chose this year‘s theme ‘Protecting Cultural Venues During Uncertain Times‘ to allow us to reflect and raise awareness of the devastation in Ukraine and to allow delegates to understand collectively how we can show our support.

We had the honour of introducing our excellent line-up of speakers with some travelling from across the globe to join us at Redworth Hall Hotel, County Durham. The topics discussed included threats from protesters, the benefits of emergency planning, training and education, risk assessments, and secure transportation of ancient artefacts.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our Gold Sponsor, Stafford Bridge Limited as well as our exhibitors ABLOY UK, Charter Global Limited, DYMENSiON, The Expanded Metal Company, Selectaglaze Limited, and Steroplast Healthcare Limited for their support in the organisation of our event.

On the 12th of September, we also hosted the Gala Dinner for both delegates and non-delegates of IAASF 2023. Alongside a beautiful meal by the chefs at Redworth Hall Hotel, we hosted the ceremony for the Cultural Protection Awards, the 'Art for Ukraine' Auction, and a raffle with all proceeds made going to support the restoration and preservation teams in Ukraine. We were joined by TV personality and auctioneering expert, Angus Ashworth, who really brought the evening to life during the bidding process.

Based on the feedback we have already received, we are so pleased to hear delegates found the event beneficial in increasing their knowledge and providing awareness of the importance of such events dedicated to the protection of cultural heritage on a global scale.

Thank you!
