Conference on Museum Collection Hazards

Members of the Trident Manor team were delighted to attend the UK Registrars Group (UKRG) 'DANGER! DANGER! High Voltage' conference at the Natural History Museum in London.

The conference programme focused on how museums and heritage organisations can identify, assess, manage and mitigate hazards within collections, covering topics such as hazardous materials (including PCBs and asbestos), collections risk management, hazard reduction programmes, and the use of accurate data to prevent and control collection-related risks. Speakers included health and safety professionals and representatives from a variety of cultural venues across the UK.

Protecting collections is only truly possible when we also protect the people who care for them, which is why it is so important to have an awareness and understanding of the hazards that can exist within our cultural collections, the legislation surrounding them, and how best to mitigate the risks associated with them. One of the key takeaways from the conference was the fact that, if hazards can be identified and their risks effectively managed, some hazardous collections can still be studied and enjoyed by researchers and members of the public, as long as this is done in a safe and controlled way.

As a corporate member of UKRG, Trident Manor would like to extend our thanks to the team for organising such an informative event.
