Trident Manor's Managing Director attended the PACA conference in Brisbane, where he presented on the international threats facing museums and cultural venues, as well as the UK's approach to Counterterrorism training.

Supporting Australasian Cultural Protection

Andy Davis, our Managing Director, was delighted to be invited to speak at the PACA (Protection of Australasian Cultural Assets) on the threats that museums and other cultural venues face from adversarial and natural/human sources and, on the second day, on the UK's approach to the protection of crowded places through the introduction of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 and the new training programme that has been developed to address the requirements.

The conference brought together representatives from the cultural heritage communities of New Zealand and Australia (the Singapore representatives unfortunately had to withdraw), as well as State & Federal Police and representatives from the wider cultural community. The event was held at the Queensland Museum of Modern Art in the impressive South Bank Cultural District.

There were great presentations, especially on the problems caused by flooding when flood defences were designed into a project. Another really interesting presentation related to the design and build of a Performing Arts Building in an area with many controls and restrictions. The issues were not dissimilar to those experienced by Trident Manor in the UK, Europe, and the Middle East.

Feedback on international threats was very well received and described as being an eye-opener for those operating in Australia. Feedback on the approach to Counterterrorism (especially as Brisbane will be hosting the Olympics shortly) and the development of the Level 3 Award in Counter Terrorism Protective Security & Preparedness was exceptional, particularly from the large police contingent who were present.

Andy commented, "It was a long journey, but so beneficial from a professional perspective. It allowed me to understand the similarities and differences that exist when protecting cultural heritage from a northern and southern hemisphere perspective. It was also great to meet like-minded individuals and teams helping to protect global cultural heritage."
