Supporting Regional Venues as They Prepare for Future Exhibitions

In September, Trident Manor consultants visited two cultural venues in the North East of England to provide security advice in support of their exhibition objectives. One venue is undertaking the renewal of its Government Indemnity Scheme (GIS) coverage for several collection items, while the other is preparing a new temporary exhibition space ahead of a major exhibition planned for next year.

Both reviews presented opportunities to review existing protection measures and identify any enhancements required to support the venues' objectives. Whether renewing GIS or creating a new temporary gallery, it is important that physical security, technical measures, operational procedures and emergency arrangements are considered at an early stage to ensure that collections, staff and visitors remain appropriately protected.

As we approach the end of the year, we typically see an increase in enquiries from museums, galleries and heritage venues preparing for new exhibitions and loan arrangements. Security requirements can change significantly depending on the nature, value and profile of the objects on display, and these considerations are often most effectively addressed during the planning stages. If your venue is preparing for an upcoming exhibition, applying for museum accreditation, or considering borrowing objects from another institution, now is the ideal time to review any security implications and ensure appropriate measures are in place.
