Multiple Projects Across the UK and Ireland

At Trident Manor, the team can sometimes be asked to undertake security reviews across different extremes of the UK within a short period, and recently three such visits were carried out: one at a prominent gallery, one at a well-known arts and culture centre, and another at a historic site open to the public – each of these spanning from the south of England to the south of Scotland, with the addition of some remote work for a client in Ireland.

Cultural and heritage venues, whether galleries, cultural heritage centres, or historic environments, continue to face a unique combination of risks. These range from environmental factors and accidental damage through to deliberate acts that could impact people, collections, and reputation. When a site is both publicly accessible and culturally significant, the challenge lies in strengthening protective security while respecting the character, function, and openness of the space.

In each of these cases, the reviews demonstrated that strong foundations were already in place. Observations and recommendations were limited and focused on enhancing existing protective layers rather than addressing overt vulnerabilities. This is often the ideal outcome, where improvement can be driven by proportionate, risk‑based thinking rather than reactive or disruptive change.

Art galleries, cultural centres and historic sites frequently occupy buildings that were never designed with modern protective security requirements in mind. When listed status applies, options for physical and technical interventions can be further restricted. Too often, we see security proposals that overlook these realities, resulting in over‑specified systems that are neither deliverable nor possible to implement. This leads to unnecessary delay and additional cost.

Trident Manor's approach focuses on understanding context; we work closely with clients to ensure that security solutions are sensible and achievable. By aligning protective security with architectural, cultural, and operational constraints, we help safeguard people and assets without compromising the integrity or purpose of the site itself, and without implementing unnecessary barriers that will force clients to cut corners in the future.

If you are responsible for the security of a cultural or historic site and would like to have a chat about protective security and preparedness, Trident Manor would be pleased to help, wherever you are in the world.
