Security Risk Assessment at a Town Hall

The Trident Manor conducted a security risk assessment at a local Town Hall in the UK earlier this month. As with many local council buildings, the venue provides an array of services in addition to its normal Council operations, including Theatre productions, art exhibitions, a museum, retail and hospitality.

Before the risk assessment, a crime pattern analysis was conducted of the immediate area to help inform the assessment process. It was found that a higher-than-average level of violence and anti-social behaviour had been reported in the last 12 months in this area, which was corroborated by the client who had experienced issues with local young people in recent months. Physical, technical and operational security measures were recommended to help manage this risk, which would hopefully benefit the wider area as a result.

Venues that provide multiple services, often involving third-party stakeholders, can sometimes encounter issues regarding access control and auditability across the premises. This can be exacerbated by legacy behaviours in which third parties have been granted permission to access restricted areas in the past. By commissioning an official security report, venues can use security advice to support changes in policies and procedures and ensure they are adhered to.
