Security Risk Assessments for The Auckland Project
Thursday, 5th June 2025

Trident Manor visited Bishop Auckland in June 2025 to support The Auckland Project team with security risk assessments for four venues: The Spanish Gallery, The Mining Art Gallery, The Faith Museum and Bishop Auckland Castle.
Trident Manor was heavily involved in the design aspect of The Auckland Project, and played a major role in ensuring 2 of the venues were suitable for holding items to be covered under GIS (Government Indemnity Scheme). The Auckland Project is a great example of how defence-in-depth can be effectively achieved while maintaining an authentic and memorable visitor experience. It was a fantastic opportunity for the team to revisit the sites and see the security designs in action.
The risk assessment visits took place over two days and included visits to the secure stores and security control room, to provide a complete understanding of how the protection of assets is conducted across the different venues. Each Gallery and Museum, while very close in proximity, has different risks and vulnerabilities due to the nature of the buildings and the items on display. It is important to ensure that any risk assessment is tailored to the individual building to ensure that recommendations made are proportionate to the assets requiring protection. Otherwise, security solutions can be overspecced, causing unnecessary spending, or underspecced, leading to unnecessary risks.
After the visits, the team security risk assessment reports for each venue, complete with a crime pattern analysis, risk-rating tables, and recommendation lists. This approach helps clients have a full understanding of the risk profile surrounding their venues, and a comprehensive breakdown of what needs to be achieved to address any vulnerabilities.
